Turning an Interest in Technology Into a Product Management Career With Women Techsters: My First Real Opportunity to Build, Learn and Grow

For Esther Adeniji, curiosity about technology directed her to Product Management. Through the Women Techsters programs, she turned an initial interest into practical skills, professional confidence, and a career path she could call her own.

I'm Esther Adeniji, and my introduction to technology began in 2023 when I was selected for the Tech4Dev Bootcamp. I later joined the Women Techsters Fellowship in August, and both programs were on the Product Management track and gave me my first real exposure to the field.

Before then, technology was simply an area I was interested in, but the experience gave me the opportunity to turn that interest into something more concrete.

Through both programs, I developed practical Product Management skills, worked on projects, and gained a better understanding of how technology can be used to solve real problems. I also built my confidence, connected with women across Africa, and gained exposure to a community that encouraged me to take my career aspirations more seriously.

My experience with Tech4Dev also extended beyond these programs and my learning. Through the TechGirls Drive, I had the opportunity to share my experience with young girls in my community and encourage them to explore careers in technology. Being able to give back and inspire others has since become an important part of my journey.

A year after completing the program, I secured a Product Manager role with one of Africa's leading financial institutions. Today, I work on products that solve real problems, take customer needs and translate them into practical solutions. Seeing the value these products create for people has made the transition from simply being interested in technology to building a career in Product Management very meaningful.

Today, I am proud of the career I have begun to build and how far that initial interest in technology has taken me. My journey with Tech4Dev gave me my first real opportunity to explore Product Management, and it became an important foundation for the career I am building today.
